For my two boys who loved anything about buses, planes, trains, boats, trucks, cars – any のりもの (norimono) you can ride on – ぼくののりものなあに (Boku no Norimono Naani) was an instant toddler hit.
Brother bears Kuu and Maa (see what the author did there?) are too engrossed in play to pack away their toys when their grandparents come to visit.
An imaginary adventure ensures, with the bears making and then riding on all sorts of vehicles on the way to greet their grandparents. With simple but fun pictures, the banana-carrying truck caught my boys’ attention every time.
For my kids, the bonus scene was the double spread diagram inside the front and rear cover pages depicting all sorts of norimono – labelled so that they could all be memorised and shouted out from the back seat of the car when we saw one in the real world.
I think that there are other Kuu and Maa books in the series.
